Kiske / Somerville – City Of Heroes Album Review
Arguably one of the greatest metal vocalists to emerge from Germany, Michael Kiske, and one of the sweetest voices of rock, Amanda Somerville, have lined up again to give us their second collaboration effort “City Of Heroes”.
The album features 12 tracks of hard rock/melodic metal and will be released on April 17th 2015 in Europe and April 21st 2015 in the US. It is available for pre-order on iTunes, Amazon CD or as an Amazon MP3 download.
Lead & Backing Vocals: Michael Kiske & Amanda Somerville
Guitars & Keyboards: Magnus Karlsson
Bass & Backing Vocals: Mat Sinner
Drums: Veronika Lukesova
Let’s get to the plus signs for this release first:
- Two amazing vocalists
- Great, melodic songs – symphonic hard rock perfected
- Pristine production
What is the downside? The lyrics are cheesy at times, too much lovey-lovey for each other – they could have done better in that department.
Nevertheless – music and production is excellent, with great guitars from Magnus Karlsson and some tracks will definitely go on playlist rotation.
- City of Heroes
- Walk on Water
- Rising Up
- Lights Out
- Breaking Neptune
- Ocean of Tears
- Open Your Eyes
- Last Goodbye
- After The Night Is Over
- Run With a Dream
- Right Now
Our favorite songs on this release are: The title track “City Of Heroes” (video below), which is an excellent opener and showcases the amazing vocal talents of Michael and Amanda. “Rising Up” is a neat metal pop number, catchy and pleasing to the ears…and I imagine it is a great road trip song which will make you drive too fast. Our favorite number is “Walk On Water” – this is seriously good stuff. When we played the song the first time at the office the reaction was “Oh, is this the new Nightwish album?” Well, the song turns a bit differently, but it is killer!
