Matchstickmen, the hard-rock quartet from Liverpool, will be releasing their new single “For No Reason” on February 27th (iTunes, Amazon MP3) and we were lucky to get an advance listen to the track (thank you Rob!). Before we dive in, one cool fact is that a precentage of the proceeds from this single are being donated to The Cybersmile Foundation. What is the Cybersmile Foundation you ask? it is a a multi award-winning anti-cyberbullying non-profit organization committed to tackling all forms of online bullying and hate campaigns. To top it off, the release date coincides with International STAND UP to Bullying Day – very cool, Matchstickmen!
“For No Reason” is a very interesting mid-tempo rocker with some nice, moody parts which explode into more heavy grooves. Some might call this alternative hard-rock if you have to put it in a drawer (sigh). We love the very bass lines/drum parts working very well with Lewis Wright’s vocal lines. Nice arrangement as well, the variations always keep the material interesting and the song grows on you more with every listen.
The subject matter of ‘For No Reason’ is about someone close to me being bullied and not being able to escape it because of the rise of social media and cyber-bullying. We wanted to bring the issue to people’s attention because it seems so much harder for kids now to when we were growing up. – Lewis Wright
Matchstickmen will be hosting a launch party for “For No Reason” on release date at The KrazyHouse in Liverpool, UK and they have more live shows announced already.
